Face Coverings at Our Resorts

Resorts in the United States, USVI, and Puerto Rico

As recommended by the CDC, Owners and guests are encouraged to wear a face covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status, in areas the CDC defines as substantial or high for COVID-19 transmission. This recommendation is in addition to any applicable face covering requirements mandated by governmental authorities in the jurisdictions where our resorts operate.

Please refer to your resort’s Property Update page for specific information regarding local government mandates that may currently be in place.

Face coverings are required for all unvaccinated Owners and guests at each of our resorts. Shared spaces where face coverings must be worn by unvaccinated Owners and guests include the following:

  • Indoor public spaces and common areas
  • Lobbies
  • Food & Beverage outlets, including pool bars, Marketplaces, and other similar venues
  • Fitness centers
  • Outdoor public spaces where social distance of 6ft/2m cannot be maintained

Please Note:  The above requirements are in addition to any applicable face covering requirements mandated by governmental authorities in the jurisdictions where our resorts are located.

Exceptions

The following exceptions apply to the above face covering requirements for unvaccinated Owners and guests while on property, but please note that any more stringent requirements mandated by governmental authorities in jurisdictions where our resorts are located will still apply:

  • Individuals younger than 2 years old
  • Individuals with a health or medical condition that prevents them from wearing a face covering
  • Individuals who are actively communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication
  • Individuals who are eating or drinking and seated at a food establishment on property (Individuals will be required to wear a face covering while moving around the food establishment and until they are seated at their table.)
  • Individuals who are exercising outdoors, including running, biking, and swimming and who are able to socially distance while doing so

Official Information

Effective August 20, 2021, pursuant to a San Francisco Health Order (issued August 12), all businesses where food or drink is served indoors and fitness establishments where individuals engage in cardiovascular, aerobic, strength training or other exercise involving elevated breathing, must (with limited exceptions) require all individuals age 12 and older to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by a vaccine authorized by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The Health Order allows the above-referenced businesses to accept the following as proof of full vaccination:

  1. The CDC vaccination card, or a separate photo/copy or photo stored on a phone/electronic device, which includes the full name of the person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, and date last dose administered; or
  2. Documentation with the same information as the CDC vaccination card, as above, issued by a foreign governmental jurisdiction; or
  3. Documentation of COVID-19 vaccination from a healthcare provider; or
  4. Written self-attestation of COVID-19 vaccination signed under penalty of perjury and including the same information as the CDC vaccination card, as above; or
  5. A personal digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the state of California or similar documentation issued by another state, local, or foreign governmental jurisdiction or by an approved private verification entity.

With certain limited exceptions, everyone, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a face covering in all indoor public settings.

Live without limits in one of the world’s most romantic cities. Over a century ago, Chicago architects Daniel Burnham and John Root brought their vision of cloud-touching skyscrapers to San Francisco in the celebrated form of The Chronicle Building. Our extensive restoration brings back the splendor of that era, augmented with the casually elegant style of service and amenities that only The Ritz-Carlton® can provide.
